2025年7月より第4代教授(診療部長/運営責任者)を拝命いたしました花北俊哉です。

当科は1986年の開設以来、歴代教授のもとで脳腫瘍、脳血管障害、脊椎・脊髄疾患、機能的脳神経外科など幅広い領域を担い、日本の脳神経外科を牽引しながら、地域の「最後の砦」として診療を続けてきた歴史ある教室です。特に頭蓋底腫瘍をはじめとする難易度の高い手術において全国的に高い実績を築き、また比企川越・さいたま市西部・埼玉県南西部を中心に、地域の脳神経救急医療の中核としても重要な役割を果たしています。

脳神経外科の治療は、患者さんとご家族の生活の質に大きな影響を及ぼすものです。その責任を胸に、私たちは常に新しい知識と技術の研鑽を重ね、安全で最善の医療を提供することを使命としています。同時に、未来を拓く新たな治療法の探究、そして優れた次世代脳神経外科医の育成にも力を注いでいます。

当科では、患者さんに安心して治療を受けていただける環境づくりに努めるとともに、連携医療機関の皆さまからの紹介患者さんに誠実に対応することを常に心がけています。また大学病院として、将来の脳神経外科医を育てることも大切な使命と考えています。学生や研修医、若手医師を積極的に歓迎し、手術見学や臨床実習はもちろん、専攻医研修の場としても豊富な症例と体系的な指導を経験できることが大きな特徴です。単に脳神経外科の専門技術を学ぶだけでなく、将来的にチーム医療の中でリーダーシップを発揮できる協調性と、患者さんおよびご家族への温かな視点を兼ね備えた責任感のある医師へと成長できるよう教育環境を整えています。

Excellence and Passion Gathered in Kawagoe

Welcome to the website of the Department of Neurosurgery at Saitama Medical University, Saitama Medical Center.My name is Shunya Hanakita, and since July 2025 I have had the honor of serving as the fourth Professor and Chair of Neurosurgery of our institute.
Since its establishment in 1986, our department has addressed a wide range of neurosurgical conditions, including brain tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, spinal and spinal cord disorders, and functional neurosurgery. With the guidance of our predecessors, we have built a long tradition of leadership in Japanese neurosurgery while also serving as the “last stronghold” of neurosurgical care for our community. In particular, we have achieved national recognition for complex skull base tumor surgeries, while also playing a central role in emergency neurosurgical care across the Hiki–Kawagoe, Western Saitama City, and Southwestern Saitama prefecture medical regions.
Neurosurgical treatment has a profound impact on the quality of life of patients and their families. With this responsibility in mind, we are committed to continuous learning and technical refinement, to provide the safest and most effective care. At the same time, we dedicate ourselves to pioneering new treatment strategies for the future and to training the next generation of outstanding neurosurgeons.
Our department strives to provide an environment where patients can receive care with confidence and peace of mind. We also place great importance on collaboration with referring physicians, ensuring that every patient is treated with sincerity and respect. As a university hospital, we regard the education of future neurosurgeons as a vital mission. We actively welcome students, residents, and young doctors. In addition to surgical observations and clinical clerkships, our residency program offers abundant operative experience and structured supervision. Here, physicians are trained not only in advanced neurosurgical techniques but also in the ability to work collaboratively within a team and to develop into responsible doctors who can lead with compassion toward patients and their families.
Together with all our faculty and staff, I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our department remains trusted by patients and communities, while opening new frontiers in neurosurgery.
